Marcus Salandy-Defour, who led DC United's under-17/18 Academy team in scoring and has been part of the youth national player pool, has verbally committed to Virginia, according to his family.

Salandy-Defour netted 13 goals in 20 matches for DC United last season, leading the squad that won the Mid-Atlantic Division title. He is rated as the No. 23 top prospect in the ESPNHS 150 for the Class of 2012.

He played high school soccer at Georgetown Prep (North Bethesda, Md.), where he was the team's leading scorer this past season.

Salandy-Defour joins a Cavaliers recruiting class that includes Brian James, Darius Madison, Jordan Poarch, Scott Thomsen and Todd Wharton.
