IUPUI lands midfielder from Colombia

Alejandro Martignon, a native of Bogota, Colombia, who is attending Darlington School (Rome, Ga.), verbally commited to IUPUI on Friday, his family confirmed.

The Class of 2012 outside midfielder prospect plays for Darlington Soccer Academy. He was part of the Darlington team that recently finished in fourth place in the Under-19 Copa Red Division at the Disney Soccer Showcase.

Prior to playing for Darlington Soccer Academy, Martignon played for the Once Caldas youth program. He is the first Once Caldas player to commit to an NCAA Division I soccer program instead of pursuing a professional career. He also played for Careca SC (Brazil) and Fair Play FC (Argentina).

Martignon joins an IUPUI recruiting class that includes Olayode Ahmed from New Hampshire, Zarko Coric, Greg Efiom, Clint Hoffar, Sean McGrath and Devon Orben from Indiana, Marek Moffett from Georgia, Ryan Onwukwe from Minnesota and Momudu Sluwar from Pennsylvania.
