Boca Raton standout picks Wake Forest

Hunter Bandy, who was named the Sun-Sentinel Class 5A-4A Player of the Year for Palm Beach County, verbally commited to Wake Forest, he confirmed Tuesday.

The Class of 2013 midfielder prospect led Boca Raton (Fla.) to the Florida Class 5A state semifinals.

During the high school season, Bandy scored 11 goals and added 16 assists. Boca Raton ended the year at 20-2-4 and ranked No. 3 in the final POWERADE FAB 50 for the winter season.

Bandy plays club soccer for Team Boca.

Other schools considered: Central Florida, Maryland, Clemson, Georgetown, Lafayette and Xavier.

Why Wake Forest?: "It is a great combination of soccer and education which is very important to me. I also love their style of play and all the coaches and all the players."

What did you learn about the recruiting process: "I learned from the recruiting process that you should really keep all of your options open and never burn any bridges because you never know what's going to happen."
