United 1996 FC defender picks Lafayette

Campbell Weyland, a Class of 2013 defender prospect from Louisville, Ky., confirmed Monday that he has committed to Lafayette.

Weyland plays club soccer for United 1996 FC.

During the past fall high school season, Weyland helped St. Xavier (Louisville, Ky.) to a 27-1-1 season and a Kentucky state title. St. Xavier ended the season ranked No. 8 in the POWERADE FAB 50 fall rankings.

Other schools considered: Wake Forest, Richmond, Northwestern, De Paul and Brown.

Why Lafayette?: "I decided on Lafayette because of the strong academics in engineering and business. As for soccer, I decided it would be a good fit for what I wanted to accomplish as a player in high D1 competition."

What surprised you the most about the recruiting process?: "What surprised me the most about the recruiting process is how quickly it starts with playing at showcases in front of coaches as early as freshmen year and how quickly coaches recruit and [offer] players before they are even done with their third year in high school."
