Demetri Zervos, one of Florida's top recruits for the Class of 2013, confirmed Wednesday that he has verbally committed to North Florida.

Zervos was a member of the Florida Olympic Development Program squad that competed in the ODP National Championships in March.

He plays high school soccer at Tarpon Springs (Tarpon Springs, Fla.).

Zervos plays club soccer for Tampa Bay United, which was created through a merger of HC United and RSL Florida five months ago. Zervos previously played for HC United.

He is the first confirmed commitment to North Florida for the Class of 2013.

Other Schools Considered: High Point, Lafayette, Marshall, Presbyterian and Winthrop.

Why North Florida?: "After meeting Coach [Derek] Marinatos and the other coaches and going around the campus I really felt very comfortable. I originally wanted to go out of state but North Florida really felt like home."

What surprised you about the recruiting process?: "I was really surprised at how fast the process went, but I know I made the right decision and can't wait to get on the field. More than anything I want to show the coaches that they made the right decision in picking me."
