Week 3 rankings: No. 2 Xavier passes test

No. 2 Xavier faced a tough challenge this week against No. 10 Cheshire, and the Falcons turned to one of their veteran playmakers to carry the team to victory. Senior RB Mike Mastroianni ran for 189 yards and three touchdowns, leading Xavier to a 42-20 win. Senior QB Pat D'Amato also chipped in with 115 rushing yards. When Xavier gets that kind of production out of its running game, the Falcons are almost impossible to beat.

Masuk looked equally impressive in a 56-0 win over Stratford, and the Panthers remain at No. 1 in the Connecticut POWERADE football rankings. No. 3 New Canaan was pushed by Warde, but battled through for a 28-14 victory.
