Week 8 football picks

Time for the Week 8 picks. Note: The game between Pomperaug and No. 1 Masuk isn't listed. I'll be breaking it down in-depth tomorrow.

Week 8 picks

No. 2 Xavier (7-0) at Hamden (1-6)

Friday, 7 p.m.

Get there promptly at 7:00 p.m. This one could be in the books by 7:10.

XAVIER 41, HAMDEN 7

No. 3 New Canaan (7-0) at Stamford (4-2)

Saturday, 5 p.m.

Stamford is good, but a bit too one-dimensional. New Canaan slows down senior Barry Boderick and pulls away comfortably.

NEW CANAAN 38, STAMFORD 20

No. 4 Daniel Hand (7-0) vs. East Haven (1-6)

Friday, 7 p.m.

Hand's defense is too much for East Haven. Double digits should win this one.

DANIEL HAND 28, EAST HAVEN 7

No. 5 Conard (7-0) vs. East Hartford (2-5)

Saturday, 2 p.m.

Conard will put East Hartford in a lot of third-and-longs, and turnovers will follow.

CONARD 35, EAST HARTFORD 6

No. 6 Ansonia (7-0) at Wolcott (6-1)

Friday, 5 p.m.

A stiff challenge for Ansonia, but I think the defense steps up late in a close one.

ANSONIA 24, WOLCOTT 17

Maloney (3-4) at No. 7 Windsor (7-0)

Friday, 7 p.m.

Too much aerial firepower for Windsor right now.

WINDSOR 36, MALONEY 14

No. 8 New London (5-1) at Montville (4-3)

Friday, 6:30 p.m.

Close game decided by a few big plays. I think Montville makes more than New London.

MONTVILLE 28, NEW LONDON 27

Trinity Catholic (3-4) at No. 9 Darien (6-1)

Saturday, 2 p.m.

The Darien defense was gashed last week. Expect better on Saturday.

DARIEN 30, TRINITY CATHOLIC 7

Warde (4-3) at No. 10 Staples (6-0)

Saturday, 2 p.m.

Junior RB Joey Zelkowitz is heating up at the right time.

STAPLES 31, WARDE 12
