This is shaping up to be a showcase weekend for Kris Dunn, as the senior guard will lead his New London team into one of its biggest games of the regular season against St. Raphael Academy (R.I.) on Saturday. Both teams won state championships last year, but that may not even be the most intriguing subplot.
Dunn's individual matchup against St. Raphael senior guard Charles Correa is also highly anticipated in my circle. Dunn is the top senior in Connecticut, while Correa is widely regarded as the best player in Rhode Island. It should be an intriguing matchup, and ESPNU recruiting expert Adam Finkelstein breaks it down in a Tale of the Tape for ESPN Boston.
From Finkelstein's report:
Dunn’s size, length, and versatility are at the heart of what helped to propel him atop the national rankings this summer. This weekend, it could be those same tools that prove to be the deciding factor in his match-up with Correa. The St. Raphael guard may actually have a slight edge in terms of sheer offensive skills, but when those skills are put to the test in the context of a full court game, Dunn’s total package could prove too much to handle.
The story is worth a read. You can check out the entire piece by clicking here.
Personally, I think Dunn is going to get the better of this one. He's taken his game to a new level this season, and that includes defense. Plus, he's on a serious roll right now — last week, he posted a triple-double (31 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists) in a win over Weaver.
