Joel James commits to UNC, impresses at Superstar Showcase

Dwyer big man Joel James revealed this week that he'll be going to North Carolina to play his college ball. James, the No. 1 senior recruit in the ESPNU 100, helped lead Dwyer to a state title last winter. He also impressed at this past weekend's Adidas Superstar Showcase in Boca Raton. Michael LaPlante writes:

With his commitment to the Tar Heels made public on Sunday, James created as much buzz off the court as he did with his play on the court. Although he was only able to participate in the morning session James looked great in the one game we watched him play. He has dropped 10 to 15 pounds and looked in good shape. He is a load in the low post who understands how to carve out space on the block and he showed nice agility and footwork when attacking the basket after the catch. He rebounded out of his area and ran the floor well, giving consistent effort even when he wasn't getting many touches in the "showcase" environment. North Carolina is getting a good one.

Other standouts included Holmes County's Chris Walker, the No. 5 junior in the ESPNU 60, and Stephon Blair of Dillard. LaPlante has full coverage of the showcase here.
