Missy Franklin will be swimming the 100 backstroke at the London Olympics after setting an American record at the U.S. Olympic trials in Omaha, Neb.
Franklin, a 17-year-old senior-to-be at Regis Jesuit (Aurora, Colo.), finished in 58.85 seconds.
"I have dreamed of this moment, but I never thought it would come true at 17 years old," Franklin said. "Dreams do come true."
Rachel Bootsma, 18, finished second in 59.49 to claim the other Olympic spot. Reigning gold medalist Natalie Coughlin finished third and did not qualify.
Franklin is entered in four other events at the trials.
