Heart of America will test ranked teams

With a pair of POWERADE FAB 50 Top 10 teams in the mix, this year's Heart of America Classic in Kansas City, Mo., could play a role in crowning a spring national champion.

EVENT DETAILS: The third annual Heart of America Classic in the Kansas City, Mo., area, features 20 teams from five states competing for two bracket titles and a round-round group title. This year’s event will take place April12-14 at the high school fields of Lee’s Summit, Lee’s Summit North and Lee’s Summit West in Lee’s Summit, Mo.

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT: The Bracket A and Bracket B winners could play themselves into the FAB 50 national title chase. Ten of the participating teams have appeared in the POWERADE FAB 50 this season and two -- No. 4 St. Teresa’s (Kansas City, Mo.) and No. 8 Jenks (Okla.) are ranked among the top 10. No other spring tournament has representation from so many states, leaving this event as pivotal in sizing up how the top teams stack up from Missouri to Colorado. Once these results are coupled with other interstate play of tournament programs, it helps create a clear picture of the truly elite high school programs for the 2012 season.
