This weekend’s Elite Clubs National League slate includes clubs from six different conferences, and features a number of rivalry matchups, including an Atlanta meeting between Condorde Fire and Atlanta Fire, a New York matchup between Albertson and East Meadow, and a Bean Town showdown between FC Stars of Mass and Scorpions. ESPNHS breaks down the ECNL Under-18 Games to Watch for this weekend.
FC Stars of Mass vs. Scorpions (9 a.m. Sunday in Massachusetts)
When it comes to crosstown rivalries, it’s hard to get better than this one. FC Stars has a loaded squad, featuring Boston College commits Hayley Dowd and Morgan Andrews on offense, complimented by Penn State-bound Corey Persson. It’s opening weekend for Scorpions, one of the top Flight B squads who are well-respected in the ECNL, especially by Stars of Mass. Head coach Jason Dewhurst said he expects this to be a tough test early for his Stars of Mass squad.
World Class vs. PDA (5 p.m. Sunday in New York)
PDA opens its ECNL schedule this weekend in New York, taking on a World Class squad that is new to the ECNL. Jessica Jankowski is always an offensive threat for PDA, and the team has always prided themselves on defense. World Class looks for its first ECNL win after dropping last weekend’s match to Stars of Mass. They’ll count on goalkeeper Allyson Gilard to keep the game close.
Ohio Elite vs. Michigan Hawks (11 a.m. Sunday in Ohio)
These two first place squads have been impressive so far this season. Michigan Hawks sits at 9-1-2, averaging better than three goals a game and earning the top spot in the Midwest Conference. Allyson Krause leads the team in goals, and has been complimented by the work of Mallory Weber up top. Ohio Elite comes into the weekend 2-0-0, notching wins by scores of 6-1 and 4-0 in their first two matches. Keep an eye out for Lana Bonekemper this weekend on the offensive side of the ball.
