Duke lands talented North Carolina player

Christina Gibbons, a Class of 2013 defender and midfielder from Raleigh, N.C., has verbally committed to Duke, her family has confirmed to ESPNHS.

Gibbons has an ECNL National Championship under her belt, winning the crown as a part of the CASL Chelsea U16 team last July. That team has also won two consecutive Premier League regional titles, and is two-time defending state cup champions. Gibbons is a regional ODP player and has noted as a standout performer in the ECNL Southeast Conference. She will attend the ECNL’s Player Development Program in February.

In high school play at Cardinal Gibbons (Raleigh, N.C.), she earned All-State honors as a sophomore in the spring of 2011. She scored 18 goals and had 8 assists, helping the Crusaders to the 3A state championship game.

Gibbons becomes the third confirmed commit to Duke for the Class of 2013, joining defenders Malinda Allen and Elizabeth Raben.

Why Duke?: "I really liked Duke because of the women's soccer Program and the academics combined. I fell in love with the campus and I could really picture myself there."

What surprised you the most about the recruiting process?: "I was surprised at how rewarding it was. Although stressful at times, I could not be happier with my decision and I learned a lot throughout the whole process."
