ESPN Chicago has come out with its initial Top 20 rankings for boys' basketball, and you know I'm all over it any time I get a chance to talk hoops. Obviously there's no suspense at the top, where Simeon is No. 1 (the Wolverines are also the top team nationally in the POWERADE FAB 50), and the rest of the elite squads mostly sync up with our own ESPNHS Illinois rankings. The ESPN Chicago rankings differ in one key spot — they have Downers Grove South all the way up at No. 5, while the Mustangs were left out of the ESPNHS list. Here's what the ESPN Chicago writeup had to say about Downers South:
The Mustangs will possess one of the state’s top backcourts with 6-2 senior Jamall Millison and 6-3 senior Jerron Wilbut. Wilbut is considered one of the top players in the state’s Class of 2012. Downers Grove South also returns 6-5 forward Kevin Honn, a two-year starter. The question for the Mustangs will be rebounding and interior defense.
I agree about the backcourt, and I especially agree on senior Jamall Millison, who I like as a player. Will the Mustangs live up to their early-season projection? It's definitely possible. Just another reason why I can't wait for basketball season to tip off.
