Sectional football picks: Round 1

Ok, here we go. After a long regular season that featured epic matchups and crazy finishes on a weekly basis, it's finally postseason time. Sectionals start tomorrow, which means these games are for real now. I don't expect any huge upsets on opening weekend, but then again, does anyone ever really see the big ones coming?

Note: You won't see the Ben Davis-Zionsville game below, because I'm saving that for a more in-depth preview tomorrow.

Sectional Round 1 picks

North Central (5-4) at No. 1 Warren Central (9-0)

Friday, 7 p.m.

This was a 48-16 win for Warren Central in Week 5, and I haven't seen a sea change for either team since then.

WARREN CENTRAL 45, NORTH CENTRAL 12

Meridian (4-5) at No. 2 Carmel (8-1)

Friday, 7 p.m.

I don't think Meridian has a chance of slowing down the Carmel running game, and that's kind of a problem. Big game for Hounds' RB Jalen Duncan.

CARMEL 44, MERIDIAN 6

SB Adams (2-7) at No. 3 Penn (9-0)

Friday, 7 p.m.

This was a 26-24 win for Penn last week, but that was barely a dress rehearsal for the Kingsmen.

PENN 38, SB ADAMS 8

No. 5 Hamilton SE (8-1) at Harrison (0-9)

Friday, 7 p.m.

With all due respect, this is about as close to a bye as you can get.

HAMILTON SE 40, HARRISON 3

Terre Haute South (3-6) at Brownsburg (8-1)

Friday, 7 p.m.

In honor of Brownsburg QB Ian Good being given the green light to play (shoulder), I give you this 1990s classic. You can even sing along with his name (it's more fun than it should be).

BROWNSBURG 31, TERRE HAUTE SOUTH 17

No. 10 Lawrence Central (8-1) at Southport (5-4)

Friday, 7 p.m.

Lawrence Central has saved its best ball for the last month of the season, but Southport gave the Bears a playoff scare last year.

LAWRENCE CENTRAL 25, SOUTHPORT 17
