The state's top-ranked football player, Columbus East senior QB Gunner Kiel, is re-evaluating his commitment to Indiana. Rated the No. 2 quarterback in the ESPNU 150, Kiel will be in South Bend for this weekend's Notre Dame-USC game. Notre Dame was in the running when Kiel initially made his commitment to IU earlier in the season.
Kiel passed for 1,710 yards with 20 touchdowns and just two interceptions during the regular season.
ESPN Recruiting analyst Jared Shanker spoke with Kiel's father to confirm the report. From Shanker's story:
"He's going to some games and other places and opening things back up," Kip Kiel said.
When asked what games and schools Gunner, a four-star recruit and No. 2 quarterback in the ESPNU 150, would check out, Kip Kiel said: "I don't want to get into that right now. I'm not even sure if he knows. It's a very difficult situation with the way things are going. He just wanted to let coach Wilson know and go from there."
