As part of our weekly football coverage here, I offer up my hypothetical fantasy football picks every Thursday. Note: This league is completely made up. If you are in a high school fantasy football league, please seek professional help.
QB – Corey Babb, Cathedral, Sr.
After two rough weeks, Cathedral finally gets a bit of a breather (no disrespect to the Centerville Elks). I fully expect Babb to be on point in this one, racking up yardage and touchdowns. Babb should complete at least two long passes (40-plus yards).
Projection: 16 of 24, 230 yards, 3 TDs
RB – Deionte Buckley, Warren Central, Sr.
This may be cheating on my part, because anyone that doesn’t know enough to start Buckley probably isn’t a football fan in the first place. Against Cathedral last week, Buckley went for 165 yards and four TDs. Those are LDT-in-his-prime numbers, and he’s facing a more favorable defense this week in Lawrence North.
Projection: 20 carries, 150 yards, 3 TDs
WR – Caleb Cornett, Ben Davis, Sr.
Cornet is the Giants’ designated big-play threat, but he’s done a good job of moving the chains so far this season. In Week 1, Cornett had 90 receiving yards and a touchdown, and last week he added 73 yards. I think he can provide that yardage, plus add in a big play this week against a surprising North Central squad.
Projection: 5 catches, 90 yards, 1 TD
DON’T START ‘EM
RB – James Williams, Lawrence North, Sr.
This one falls under my rule of “Do Not Start Anyone Against Warren Central.” The defense is too good. I’m not going to waste my time hoping for Williams to break one long run in order to salvage a slow day – because that’s what you’ll end up doing if you start him against the Warriors.
Projection: 16 carries, 60 yards, 0 TDs
WR – Trace Fetterer, Columbus North, Sr.
Coming off a rousing win over rival Columbus East in the ESPNHS Football Kickoff (in which Fetterer had six catches for 79 yards and a TD), Fetterer seems like a solid start. But against Week 3 opponent Bloomington North, I expect the Bulldogs to pound it on the ground to take advantage of a weak rush defense.
Projection: 3 catches, 45 yards, 0 TDs
* Projections based on 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR format; No PPR
