ESPNHS: What other school’s did you consider?

Zoe: Stukenberg: “Johns Hopkins, University of Florida, Princeton, Georgetown, Duke, Harvard, and Loyola.”

ESPNHS: What made Maryland such an attractive choice?

ZS: “Maryland just felt right! It is truly an amazing place, and it is a perfect fit for my personality. I love that I will get to represent the State of Maryland on the field, and compete at the highest level. Maryland is a great school academically with an unrivaled history in women's lacrosse. The Maryland team and coaches are amazing and I'm lucky to be a part of such a special family!

ESPNHS: What surprised you about the recruiting process?

ZS: “I was most surprised with the speed of the recruiting process. I always assumed that the recruiting process would carry well into my junior year, but I am thankful to have made a decision already!”

ESPNHS: What was the most important question you asked college coaches during the process?

ZS: “On college visits I never really had any pressing questions. By watching a practice and meeting the team, I could get a pretty good feel for the team chemistry. Playing for a fun coach on a positive team is really important to me, so watching practices was the most important part of my visits.”

ESPNHS: What one piece of advice would you give to other players who are just starting on the recruiting process?

ZS: “Enjoy! The recruiting process is truly amazing, so slow down and have fun with it. Don't be afraid to reach for your dream school, but at the same time be realistic. Have faith that it will all work out, because there truly is a perfect fit for everyone. Find a program you love at a school where you will fit in and just go for it. Never worry about what other people say- no school is perfect. No matter where you decide to go, people are going to question your decision. Pick a school where you see yourself having a great time and getting a great education, nothing else really matters.

ESPNHS: Is there anything about the recruiting process that you think could change that would have made it easier or less stressful for you?

ZS: “The only thing that could have made the recruiting process less stressful is if there weren't so many amazing options out there!”
