ESPNHS continues its weekly feature, Around the Crease, which takes a look at players, teams and high school lacrosse news from around the country.
Look Who’s Playing
Alexandra Lista may not be a household name just yet, but if the junior goalie from Mount St. Joseph’s (Villanova, Pa.) continues her play from the Girls’ Philly Lacrosse Showcase into the season, that will change.
The junior was named the overall MVP at the Girls’ Philly Lacrosse Showcase in November – not bad for a player who only started playing goalie as a freshman.
“Freshman year I tried out as a field player, but our team needed a goalie,” Lista said. “Our coach saw that I was athletic and quick enough and she decided to throw me in goal for a practice. She told me if I didn’t like it I didn’t have to continue. It just took off from there, I told her that I wanted to keep doing it.”
Lista is aggressive in goal, preferring to attack opponents rather then wait for them to make the first move. That aggressiveness stems from her days as attack player at the youth level.
The goalie has taken unofficial visits to George Washington, Cornell and has attended clinics at Yale and Johns Hopkins.
The Top Gun Fighting Clams are located in Massachusetts and have 250 athletes in the program.
Currently, 40 Clams are committed to play in college at some level.
