Landon (Md.) junior chooses Delaware

Landon (Bethesda, Md.) junior Taylor Valencia gave Delaware a verbal commitment on Thursday to play men’s lacrosse.

The junior plays attack for the Bears who finished No. 15 in last year’s POWERADE FAB 50 and posted wins over Malvern Prep (Malvern, Pa.), Georgetown Prep (North Bethesda, Md.), Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) and Bullis (Potomac, Md.).

ESPNHS: What other school’s did you consider?

Taylor Valencia: “Bucknell and Brown.”

ESPNHS: What made Delaware such an attractive choice?

TV: 1) Engineering program. 2) Location (Nice town and only two hours from home.

ESPNHS: What surprised you about the recruiting process?

TV: “The recruiting process goes by so fast.”

ESPNHS: What was the most important question you asked college coaches during the process?

TV: “What kind of academic support will be given to the athletes.”

ESPNHS: What one piece of advice would you give to other players who are just starting on the recruiting process?

TV: “Be persistent when trying to contact coaches and work hard on and off the field.”
