Calvert Hall (Baltimore, Md.) junior midfielder Tom Hollenback announced to ESPNHS on Sunday night that he has verbally committed to play men's lacrosse for Syracuse University.
Hollenback, a 2013 graduate, made the varsity squad as a freshman at Calvert Hall and was a member of the Baltimore team at the Under Armour Underclassmen games.
Syracuse University is a Division I school located in Syracuse, N.Y. The Orangemen play in the Big East Conference.
ESPN High School: What other school’s did you consider?
Thomas Hollenback: “Hopkins, UNC, Hofstra, Maryland, High Point.”
EHS: What made Syracuse such an attractive choice?
TH: “Syracuse is one of the most successful lacrosse programs in the country with great academics. The facilities are as nice as it gets and there is no better home field than the Carrier Dome.”
EHS: What surprised you about the recruiting process?
TH: “How early the process begins and how tough of a decision it is to find the school that fits best.”
EHS: What was the most important question you asked college coaches during the process?
TH: “How is the academic support and how are they going to help me find future job opportunities.”
EHS: What one piece of advice would you give to other players who are just starting on the recruiting process?
TH: “I would tell them to take their time with their decision and find the school for them. A coach will wait for you if he truly wants you in his program.”
EHS: Is there anything about the recruiting process that you think could change that would have made it easier or less stressful for you?
TH: “It would of been less stressful if the coaches who are recruiting you could contact you directly.”
