North Harford (Md.) junior chooses Hofstra

Audrey Byrd, a junior from North Harford (Pylesville, Md.), has verbally committed to play women's lacrosse for Hofstra.

Byrd, who plays midfield and defense, gave the Pride her commitment on Dec. 12.

ESPNHS: What other school’s did you consider?

Audrey Byrd: I visited Division I, II and III schools, including George Mason, Lock Haven, Longwood, Stevenson and West Chester.

ESPNHS: What made Hofstra such an attractive choice?

AB: “There's nothing I didn't like about Hofstra. The coaches and girls were down to earth and the facilities were stellar.”

ESPNHS: What surprised you about the recruiting process?

AB: “I was surprised at the number of coaches that expressed interest in me, as well as the number of coaches on the sidelines at games.”

ESPNHS: What was the most important question you asked college coaches during the process?

AB: “A question I was sure to ask was, will I have the opportunity as a freshman to see the field?”

ESPNHS: What one piece of advice would you give to other players who are just starting on the recruiting process?

AB: “Advice I would give to girls just starting the process is e-mails, e- mails, e-mails. Staying in contact is very important!”

ESPNHS: Is there anything about the recruiting process that you think could change that would have made it easier or less stressful for you?

AB: “Following the NCAA rules are very strict regarding contact with me as a player.”
