Girls' Region Players of the Week

Each week during the 2012 season, ESPNHS Lacrosse will select a player from each of four regions as Player of the Week.

To submit a player for consideration fill out our submission form here. Please be sure to provide the player’s entire week's worth of performances. Athletes can earn Player of the Week honors just once during the 2012 regular season.

The following players are for the week of April 29 through May 5.


Amanda Turturro, Jr., Farmingdale (N.Y.), midfield

Turturro scored 13 goals last week, including six goals and an assist in a 13-12 win over No. 9 Garden City (N.Y.) on May 1. The Rutgers commit scored four of her six goals in a second half in which Farmingdale outscored the Trojans 10-4. The junior scored four goals and added two assists in a 17-11 win over No. 28 Eastport-South Manor on May 5. In between her performances against FAB 50 teams, Smith scored three goals and an assist against Port Washington on May 3.


Kristy Allen, Jr., East Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids, Mich.), goalie

Allen’s performance in goal helped East Grand Rapids improve to 18-0. The junior recorded 11 saves in a 17-10 win over Grand Rapids Forest Hills United on May 2. Allen followed it up by recording 16 saves in three wins during the East Grand Rapids Invitational on May 3.


Mackenzie Smith, Sr., Vero Beach (Fla.), attack

Smith finished her stellar career with a bang last week. In Vero Beach’s final three games, Smith scored 11 goals and helped the Fighting Indians capture their seventh straight Florida state championship. The Vanderbilt commit scored four goals and had four assists in the 22-6 state championship victory over Bishop Moore on May 5. On May 1 the senior helped propel Vero Beach into the Final Four by totaling five goals and three assists in an 18-0 win over Gulf Coast. Smith added two goals in the 19-7 in over Pine Crest in the state semifinals on May 4. For the season Smith scored 66 goals and tallied 62 assists.


Kelsey Mackin, Sr., Bainbridge Island (Bainbridge, Wash.), midfield

Mackin helped Bainbridge complete its regular season as the No. 1 team in Washingtonby scoring nine goals in the final two games. Against Klahowya on April 30, the senior scored seven goals and dished out three assists in a 22-4 win. Then on April 2 the midfielder tallied three assists and two goals in a 22-2 win over North Kitsap. Mackin leads the team with 59 goals and 17 assists this season.
