ESPN High School: What other school’s did you consider?

Maggie Preas: “There were many schools on my radar at first but It came down to Maryland, Duke and Virginia in the end.”

EHS: What made UVA such an attractive choice?

MP: “I was lucky because all of my choices were excellent and it was a difficult decision since each school is very unique. Ultimately, I have always liked UVA (since I was little) with it's rich history and great lacrosse tradition. It is a great school.”

EHS: What surprised you about the recruiting process?

MP: “How early it all started. I began looking at schools in the spring of my sophomore year. I was really surprised that schools were on different timelines for filling their spots. Some wanted to fill them early, and some wanted to wait for things like SAT scores or to see how the fall club season would unfold. Each was very different.

EHS: What was the most important question you asked college coaches during the process?

MP: “It was important to listen to all that is offered by each school and to not forget to look at the academics. You also have to ask: "Where you see me fitting into your program?" if it's not clear.”

EHS: What one piece of advice would you give to other players who are just starting on the recruiting process?

MP: “Talk to your current coaches (high school and club) about the different programs/schools.”

EHS: Is there anything about the recruiting process that you think could change that would have made it easier or less stressful for you?

MP: “For me, it was not particularly stressful. I know that I'm lucky to have had three fabulous programs interested in me. I couldn't have made a bad choice but I am so excited to go to UVA!”
