Excellent Page 2 scribe Patrick Dorsey wrote a story on a movie set to be released today about the Dearborn Fordson football team. We've got a clip from the film (above) and you can read the story here about the documentary, titled "Fordson: Faith, Fasting, Football."
Fordson is a team of predominantly Muslim athletes. During the holy month of Ramadan, these athletes practice and play all while fasting from sunrise to sunset in accordance with their religious tradition. As you can imagine, it's not easy to battle through two-a-days without food or water. The team often practices late at night for the safety of the players. Players also endure racial slurs and are accused of being terrorists — all sadly part of being Muslim in a post 9/11 world.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton praised the film yesterday at the U.S. State Department during a ceremony for Muslim-American Athletes. Fordson head coach Fouad Zaban was at the event with four members of the Fordson football team.
