Avallone, Pontrello lead New Jersey pack on ESPNHS 100 lax list

The ESPNHS 100 lacrosse list was released this week and there were plenty of names from New Jersey -- six, to be exact.

Leading the way were Mendham goalie Tyler Avallone, who came in at No. 14 and is committed to Syracuse, and St. Augustine Prep midfielder Steven Pontrello, the No. 16 overall player and a UNC pledge. You might remember these two were ranked high on the goalie and midfielder lists released a few weeks ago. Here's what our resident expert Tom Peace had to say about Avallone and Pontrello:

Avallone has a nice game in the cage -- doesn't shy away from using his body to make a save. Avallone made first team All-State and played for the New Jersey underclass team at the Under Armour games.

Pontrello is one of four rising seniors to be selected to play for the US Under-19 team. The rising senior has a nice left-handed shot on the goal and he moves well up the field on transition. Besides being named to the US team, the two-time All-American also was named player of the year by the Atlantic City Press and was named to the All-State team for the second straight year.
