New York Week 11 hoops rankings: Calhoun becomes CTK's greatest scorer

After games on Sunday, Feb. 19

Omar Calhoun entered the season just 598 points away from becoming the all-time leading scorer in Christ the King's history. In other words, it was just a matter of time before the UConn recruit moved atop the list.

So with former record-holder and current Royals assistant coach Khalid Reeves watching on the sideline, Calhoun continued his recent tear with 32 points in a win against Burke Catholic and moved into first place. Now, the Royals hope their newly minted legend can keep up this pace as the playoffs heat up.

Here are this week's rankings (last week's rankings in parentheses):

1. Mount Vernon 17-2 (1)

Every one of the Knights scored in a Class AA opening-round rout of Clarkstown North. Next up: a second-round matchup with New Rochelle on Tuesday.

2. Christ the King (Middle Village) 18-6 (2)

Omar Calhoun became the school's all-time scoring leader with 32 points in a win against Burke Catholic. Royals will continue play in Brooklyn/Queens Diocesan tournament on Wednesday.

3. Jefferson (Brooklyn) 22-6 (3)

After a loss to national No. 3 St. Anthony (N.J.), the Orange Wave downed Xaverian. They will begin their state-title push next Wednesday against Robeson in the second round of the PSAL Class AA playoffs.
