Stacey Bedell, Zach Kearney are on the rise in New York football

It's time for the New York All-State football stock watch, but from now on, we're going to switch things up a little bit. Along with highlighting All-State players who are ballin' out, we'll now start handing out an On The Rise (OTR) award for a player who wasn't on the preseason list but is well on his way to earning postseason recognition.

UP — Stacey Bedell, William Floyd RB

After having an off game against a Brentwood defense that made solely focused on stopping him, I said it wouldn't be long before Bedell was back on track. (Yeah, I know...bold prediction.) The senior proved just that in a major way during the Colonials' 40-7 win against Northport, rushing for a 352 yards and five touchdowns in the rout.

OTR — Zach Kearney, Xaverian QB

In just his first year as the starter, Kearney has shown tremendous poise and potential. After breaking an 80-yard touchdown run to spark a 37-16 win against Iona Prep two weeks ago, the junior continued his emergence in last week's victory against Holy Trinity. Kearney scored three times, putting the Clippers in good position to give top-ranked St. Anthony's a stiff challenge when they meet this weekend.
