As if there weren't enough upsets over the weekend, yet another defending state champion went down Monday night, as Nash Central stunned defending 2A champion Tarboro, 38-28. The contest, which was moved from Friday due to bad weather, saw the Vikings' 23-game win streak come to an end.
With the score knotted at 20 after one quarter, Nash Central scored 18 unanswered points to take control of the game and avenge a 20-0 loss in last year's meeting.
Today I caught up with Tarboro's Todd Gurley, who scored three times in the losing effort. And while he was disappointed, Gurley said the key would be turning the defeat into a learning experience.
"It was just a lack of discipline, but we'll refocus this week and come back with a different mindset, as a unit."
Speaking of Gurley, check back Friday for the first installment of his recruit diary as he chronicles the weekly happenings leading up to his big college decision.
