Get in the mood for tonight's games with a wrap-up of last week's top games, including Centerville competing in the Kirk Herbstreit Classic, in the video below.
Game of the Week: St. Xavier (2-0) at Colerain (2-0)
The estimated attendance for this matchup of Greater Cincy powers is expected to be upwards of 8,000 fans. St. Xavier RB Conor Hundley is coming off a huge 156-yard, 4-TD effort against Pickerington Central, while Colerain shut out Ryle (Ky.) behind Joe Bolden’s play on defense and Jackson Sorn's running. The Cardinals will be without superstar RB Chris Davis, who was lost for the season after suffering a knee injury last Friday. The Bombers have had the edge in this series winning five of the last seven meetings, including four times in the postseason.
David’s pick: The loss of Davis is devastating and could limit Colerain on offense, so I’m picking the Bombers here, 17-10.
Some more to watch
St. Ignatius (2-0) at Mentor (2-0)
Ignatius’ secondary, led by Ball State recruit Mike Svetina, will have its hands full with Mentor’s high-powered spread attack. Mentor drilled three-time defending state champ Ursuline last week as senior QB Mitch Trubisky piled up more than 400 yards on offense. Ignatius counters with Svetina and Ohio State commit Blake Thomas, who is a big threat over the middle and in the red zone.
Ursuline (0-2) at Lake Catholic (2-0)
We pegged Ursuline as a preseason top-5 team in Ohio but the Irish have failed to live up to expectations due in large part to its challenging early-season schedule. They hope to get on track against another formidable opponent in Lake Catholic, which has claimed a pair of one-touchdown wins over Strongsville and Ravenna to open the season.
Elyria (2-0) at Elyria Catholic (2-0)
The scoreboard operators will really earn their paycheck tonight. These two squads combined for 91 points in last year’s matchup, which was won by Elyria Catholic, 56-35. Neither team appears to have lost a step as Elyria has scored 103 points and Catholic has 76 through the first two weeks.
