St. Edward's march to last year's Division I crown came as a bit of a surprise, but no one is sleeping on the Eagles this fall. Led by Michigan-bound OL Kyle Kalis, St. Ed opens the year as the top team in Ohio and the No. 14 squad in the POWERADE FAB 50. Their rise in prominence has led to some stiff competition this year as the team will play the No. 1 team in the country (Don Bosco Prep) in October, in addition to its usual grueling in-state schedule.
Looking to knock the Eagles off their perch locally is Cincinnati power St. Xavier (No. 2) and Division V champ Ursuline (No. 3). Senior Conor Hundley (19 TDs in 2010) spearheads the Bombers' ground attack, while Ursuline's defense should be menacing with seniors Jesse Curry and Trevor Smith in the linebacking corps. Austintown-Fitch could also make a run at No. 1 with senior twins and Pitt commits Demitrious and Chris Davis making highlight-worthy plays all over the gridiron.
Here's how the preseason rankings look heading into the season:
1. St. Edward
2. St. Xavier
5. Pickerington Central
8. St. Ignatius
