After games ending Saturday, Sept. 24
The new kids on the block this week are the Comets of Solon. The team boasts one of the state's top offensive units led by QB Pat Kramer. The Comets piled up 48 points to beat Normandy last week, and the team has outscored its foes 206-35 this season. Solon faces Mentor in two weeks, so we'll see if they have what it takes to remain in the top 10. Win or lose, these guys should be a tough out come playoff time. Elsewhere, St. Ed maintains its stranglehold on No. 1 after trouncing its second out-of-state opponent. The Eagles will look to remain undefeated with a road contest against Division V champ Ursuline Friday night in Youngstown. St. Xavier dropped to No. 3 by virtue of its 27-24 loss to Moeller. The Bombers have lost consecutive games but both teams were ranked nationally. Austintown Fitch also lost back-to-back contests and dropped out of the top 10.
Here's how the top three teams fared last week:
1. St. Edward — defeated Tampa Jefferson, 52-6 (last week No. 1)
2. Moeller — defeated St. Xavier, 27-24 (last week No. 3)
3. St. Xavier — loss to Moeller, 27-24 (last week No. 2)
