Mentor takes over No. 1 in the Week 8 football rankings

St. Edward will not occupy the No. 1 spot for the first time this season. The Eagles dropped their second consecutive game, falling to St. Xavier, 17-10, Saturday in Cincinnati to fall to No. 4. The win vaulted the Bombers to No. 2; a spot behind newly minted No. 1 Mentor. The Cardinals look to keep the top spot despite ending the season with road games at Strongsville and Twinsburg. Hilliard Davidson topped Dublin Coffman to make its debut in the top 10, while GlenOak's first loss knocked them out the rankings.

Here's how the top three teams fared last week:

1. Mentor — defeated Medina, 45-7 (last week No. 5)

2. St. Xavier — defeated St. Edward, 17-10 (last week No. 3)

3. Moeller — lost to Indianapolis Cathedral, 26-24 (last week No. 2)
