Stock rising for Ball, Washington

I want to welcome you all to the first installment of our weekly All-State Stock Watch. Each week we’ll put three of our preseason All-State selections under the microscope to see who is living up to the hype and who may be falling behind.

I don’t want to make this a one-man effort, so chime in with your picks for the state’s biggest movers in the comment's section below. For a refresher on the players in the running, here is our preseason All-State team. Let’s get going with the stock report.

Up — Warren Ball, St. Francis DeSales, RB

Ball didn’t need a lot of touches to lead the Stallions over Brookhaven. The senior scored six short touchdowns and finished the contest with 77 yards on just 14 carries.

Down — Alex Pace, Glenville, DL

Pace and the defense just couldn’t stop Camden County’s rushing attack. The Wildcats racked up huge chunks of yards on the ground, relegating big-armed Georgia-bound QB Brice Ramsey to hand-off duties. Glenville couldn’t sustain drives on offense to make things more difficult on Pace and Co. The winless Tarblooders hope to right the ship against at East Tech.

Up — Adolphus Washington, Taft, DL

After losing to Friendship Collegiate in Week 1, Washington took his frustrations out on Badin. The defensive end was unstoppable, bringing down the QB four times and scooped up a fumble and returned it for the game-winning score. He also had 11 tackles in his monster performance.
