The real festivities are still on the horizon, but this weekend offers some intriguing play-in games for the football postseason. We take a look at three of the best matchups on the gridiron.
Scappoose (6-4) at Gladstone (7-2)
Each team features a prolific offensive attack that regularly eclipses the 40-point mark. Scappoose finished the regular season strong by putting up 157 points to claim three straight wins, while Gladstone won six of its final seven contests (scoring 25-plus in each game) to place second in the Tri-Valley League.
Eagle Point (4-4) at Silverton (7-2)
Silverton’s lone home loss came against a Crescent Valley team that rallied for a late 27-21 victory. Other than that, the Raiders have been dominant on their field, outscoring foes, 130-50. The Eagles have turned it on in recent weeks with back-to-back wins against North Eugene and Ashland. They will need a big game from Tyrone Holmes to score an upset and earn their first road win of the season.
Glencoe (2-7) at Lakeridge (5-4)
At one point this season Lakeridge was ranked No. 9 in the state and had the look of a serious contender in Class 6A. But the Pacers dropped their next four games and lost QB Tommy Knecht to an arm injury. Glencoe has struggled mightily this year as the defense has failed to keep teams out of the end zone as the Crimson Tide haven’t won a game since Sept. 30.
