Football Preview: Pittsburgh C.C. vs. Archbishop Wood

Two of Pennsylvania's top football teams will square off this weekend when Pittsburgh Central Catholic takes on Archbishop Wood in a battle of Eastern PA vs. Western PA. The game will be broadcast on Sunday on ESPN2 at 2 p.m.

There's plenty of talent on both sides of the ball in this contest. Both teams have earned spots in the POWERADE FAB 50, as Pittsburgh C.C. owns the No. 22 spot and Archbishop Wood snuck into the national rankings at No. 46 overall. The Vikings of the WPIAL have been a historically dominant team, going 98-18 in the last decade.

Both teams have exceptional talent as well. For Pittsburgh C.C., Maryland-bound senior wideout Anthony Nixon is the must-see featured athlete. Last season he had 699 yards on 33 catches, and he's expected to be among the best wideouts in the Northeast this season. Senior QB Perry Hills is the team's quarterback.

For Archbishop Wood, all eyes will be on senior Colin Thompson, a Florida-bound tight end known more for his blocking than his receiving. But when he needs to make a catch, there's no better target in the Keystone State. There's plenty of other talent on the roster including senior center Brandon Arcidiacono, senior running back Desmon Peoples and senior offensive lineman Frank Taylor.

Anytime two FAB 50 teams meet up, it's sure to be an outstanding game, and this one should be no different. It's tough to pick a winner in a game like this, but I'm going to go with the (slight) underdog in this one.

Prediction: Archbishop Wood 31, Pittsburgh C.C. 27

Previous record: 0-0
