Pennsylvania Preps Pick'em: Week 5

Each week we'll take three intriguing matchups and put our knowledge to the test with some predictions. If you think your team's game is one of the best on the schedule, let us know in the comments or on Twitter @CParishESPNHS and we'll put it up for debate.

(Ranks are based on this week's state rankings)

No. 3 North Allegheny (4-0) vs. Seneca Valley (3-1)

Seneca Valley hasn't beaten North Allegheny since 2002, but this year's squad has as much talent as it's had at any point in the last 10 years. After a huge win over McKeesport last week, the Raiders are 3-1 with their only loss coming to Cathedral Prep. The team has scored 40 or more points in its three wins. Quarterback Jordan Brown has already thrown for more than 800 yards this season. But North Allegheny has steamrolled even the strongest of opponents this season and is led by a strong quarterback as well — Mack Leftwich. PREDICTION: North Allegheny 34, Seneca Valley 24

Council Rock South (4-0) vs. Pennsbury (3-1)

The saying "old school, smashmouth football?" It totally applies to this game. These two teams are going to churn for every extra yard, and the game will likely be won in the trenches. Council Rock South features Brian Donnelly, a quarterback by name only. He has 591 rushing yards and nine TDs this season. On the other side, Pennsbury runs a slightly more traditional offense with running back Adam Lewis, who might be the fastest player on the field this weekend. PREDICTION: Pennsbury 24, Council Rock South 20

No. 9 Cumberland Valley (4-0) vs. Chambersburg (3-1)

Cumberland Valley had allowed only 12 points this season before last week's 45-21 win over State College. The defense wants to get back on track and prove that was a one-week fluke. The reigning Class AAAA semifinalists are off to a better start than last season (3-1 at this time last year) but can't afford to underestimate a Chambersburg squad that is hungry following a loss to Central Dauphin East. Chambersburg can score, led by QB Connor McCoy, but it'll be the defense that wins or loses this battle. PREDICTION: Cumberland Valley 28, Chambersburg 14

Previous Record: 6-7
