Each week, we'll take an in-depth look at our preseason All-State basketball team and let you know how a few of those athletes are faring as the season progresses. We'll feature a Prime-Time player (PTP), an Other Top Player (OTP) and an under the radar star who is making a bid to be one of the state's top players (UTR).
If you've got athletes you think we should mention in our All-State Stock Watch, hit me up on Twitter @CParishESPNHS.
PTP: Devin Thomas, Central Dauphin, Senior
Thomas is averaging a double-double on the season, which is one of the many reasons why the Rams are unbeaten at 8-0. The senior Wake Forest signee is averaging 20.3 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. He's pretty good at handling rejection, too — in a game against Norristown on Dec. 28, Thomas had six blocks to go with his 19 points and 10 rebounds, and he's averaging three blocks per game.
OTP: Geno Thorpe, Shaler, Junior
Shaler is off to a 7-2 start, and the points just keep rolling in for the Titans' junior phenom. Thorpe, a 6-foot-2 guard, is averaging nearly 25 points per game. He's scored 30 or more points three times, including a season-high 34 in the team's most recent game against Central Catholic — a 72-63 win on Tuesday.
UTR: Marc Summy, Penn Manor, Senior
Penn Manor's leading scorer has been off the hook this year. And he one-upped himself in a game against McCaskey. The senior guard hit six 3-pointers and poured in 48 points in the game, but his team came up on the losing end of a triple-overtime thriller, 81-78. He led the Lancaster-Lebanon league in scoring at 20.7 ppg before the game. After the contest? He was up to 24.0 ppg.
