POY Potential: Top La. volleyball recruits

The Gatorade Player of the Year Program honors athletes who meet comprehensive and exacting criteria in high school sports. Candidates are judged on athletic production and impact in the current season. Contenders also must demonstrate high academic achievement and exemplary personal character, including volunteerism, sportsmanship and community leadership. Senior status has no bearing on a candidate’s merit and selections are made independent of PrepVolleyball.com's Senior Aces rankings.

That being said, the state’s top recruits as ranked by PrepVolleyball.com are sure to enter the 2011-12 Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year conversation at some point. Here they are …

1. Mandeville High (La.) outside hitter and 2010-11 Gatorade Girls Volleyball Player of the Year Katie Lindelow

  • PrepVolleyball Senior Aces rank: 70

  • Height: 6-foot-0

  • Club: LAVB

  • College: LSU (verbal)

  • John Tawa, publisher of PrepVolleyball.com: "Named 2010 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year, Lindelow is as tough as they get. Constantly willing her team to finish higher than most expect, she is a great team player who will do whatever is necessary for her team. A gifted all-around player, Lindelow, who tore the ACL and MCL in her left knee on Oct. 13, excels no matter what position she plays."

2. Fontainebleau High (Mandeville, La.) outside hitter/middle blocker Haley Bonneval

  • PrepVolleyball Senior Aces rank: 86

  • Height: 6-foot-1

  • Club: Louisiana-VIA

  • College: Notre Dame (verbal)

  • John Tawa, publisher of PrepVolleyball.com: "An incredibly athletic player, Bonneval’s 10-0 touch allows her to attack and block high above the net from all three front row positions. Effective attacking from the back row as well, Bonneval has improved her defense and serving through club and now is playing the game with great intelligence."

Each Gatorade State Player of the Year is challenged by thousands of fellow high school athletes. These are a few of the returning volleyball underclassmen that also contended in 2010-11 …
