THE WINNER: Ciara Parker
School: Snow Canyon (St. George, Utah)
Athletic achievement: Parker recorded 654 assists, 276 digs, 127 kills, 70 service aces and 47 blocks this past season while leading the Warriors (26-4) to the Class 3A state final. The state record-holder for career assists, she was named the Class 3A Player of the Year by the Salt Lake Tribune. Parker is a three-time Deseret News Class 4A Player of the Year and earned State Tournament MVP honors as a sophomore and junior.
Academic excellence: Parker has maintained a 3.85 GPA in the classroom.
Exemplary character: A member of the National Honor Society, Parker has volunteered locally as a youth volleyball coach and as a mentor for incoming students at Canyon.
“Parker is that rare type of player who can not only be unstoppable and score on her own, but who absolutely makes everyone around her a better player,” said Shane Jones, head coach of rival Sky View (Smithfield, Utah). “She’s a great setter and defender, and brings an attitude that all of us coaches would love to have on our team.”
Parker has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball on scholarship at Brigham Young University beginning in the fall of 2012.
