Utah Softball POY: Jordan Theurer

A dedicated ESPNHS team managed the Gatorade Softball Player of the Year selection process, resulting in this winner based on the program's three pillars: athletic production and impact in the 2011-12 season, high academic achievement and exemplary personal character.

THE WINNER: Jordan Theurer


School: Bear River (Garland, Utah)

Grade: Junior

Position: Pitcher

Height: 5-foot-7


Athletic achievement: Theurer led the Bears (26-5) to their fifth straight Class 3A state championship this past season. She posted a 22-4 record with a 2.09 ERA and 151 strikeouts in 157.1 innings pitched. Theurer recorded 12 shutouts and one no-hitter. At the plate, she batted .442 with four home runs, 13 doubles, 48 RBI and a .726 slugging percentage. Theurer is a two-time Class 3A State Tournament MVP and was the 2011 Class 3A MVP for both the Deseret News and the Salt Lake Tribune.

Academic excellence: Theurer has maintained a 3.89 GPA in the classroom.

Exemplary character: A devoted member of her church community, she has volunteered locally with the Boys & Girls Club and as a youth softball and basketball coach.


“Jordan is as well-rounded a player as you can get,” said Dane Palmer, Theurer’s ASA coach with the Utah Thunder. “She throws hard and she a lot of different pitches. And she’s an outstanding hitter.”

THE FUTURE: Theurer will begin her senior year of high school this fall.
