South Carolina Volleyball POY: Kylie Haun

A dedicated ESPNHS team managed the Gatorade State Volleyball Player of the Year selection process, resulting in this winner based on the program's three pillars: athletic production and impact in the 2011 season, high academic achievement and exemplary personal character.

THE WINNER: Kylie Haun


School: Hillcrest (Simpsonville, S.C.)

Grade: Senior

Position: Outside hitter

Height: 5-foot-8


Athletic achievement: Haun led the Rams (53-5) to the Class 4A state title this past season. Haun recorded 479 kills, 245 digs, 95 assists and 65 service aces. The school record-holder for career kills and digs, she is a two-time All-State selection and was named Class 4A Player of the Year.

Academic excellence: Haun has maintained a 4.16 GPA in the classroom.

Exemplary character: A member of her school’s student government, Haun has volunteered locally on behalf of Meals on Wheels, youth volleyball camps and an elementary school mentoring program.


“Haun is a great all-around volleyball player,” said Alexis Glover, head coach of rival Wando (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.). “She jumps well and she’s very smart. She’s a very, very important part of their program and she never comes off the court.”


Haun has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball on scholarship at Colorado’s Metro State beginning in the fall of 2012.
