THE WINNER: Marcia Ashdown

School: Riverton (Wyo.)

Grade: Senior

Position: Forward

Height: 5-foot-8

Athletic achievement: Ashdown scored 29 goals and passed for six assists this past season, leading the Wolverines (8-9-2) to the Class 4A state tournament. She is a two-time First Team All-State selection and owns the school records for goals in a season (35) and career (84).

Academic excellence: Ashdown has maintained a 3.50 GPA in the classroom.

Exemplary character: A devoted member of her church youth group and a peer mentor in her school, she has volunteered locally on behalf of youth sports programs.

“Ashdown is smart and quick and you can’t let her get anywhere near the net,” said Tracy Wyant, head coach at rival Green River (Wyo.). “She’s a very dangerous threat for that team.”

THE FUTURE: Ashdown has signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer on scholarship at the University of Wyoming this fall.
