On Thursday in Monaco, USA Track and Field will formally deliver Eugene, Oregon’s bid to host the 2014 World Junior Championships.
And it would seem that this could be a slam dunk for “Tracktown U.S.A.”
In August, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) expected bids from Eugene, Nassau, Bahamas and Kazan, Russia. But Nassau and Kazan have reportedly dropped out.
Hayward Field, on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene, is already the home of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials and the 2013 and 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The World Juniors, for athletes 19 and under, would be the first global championship to be held at Hayward Field. And it would also bring the World Juniors to the U.S. for the first time.
