This Wednesday, January 18th, Saucony and Universal Sole will present an evening with Molly Beckwith. The informal question and answer session will be held at Whitney Young High School, 211 S. Laflin, in Chicago. There is no cost for the event, which will begin at 7:00 PM.
Beckwith, a member of the Saucony Running Team, is an Olympic hopeful after finishing 7th in the 800 meters at the 2011 USA Championships. She currently holds a personal best of 1:59.12 for that distance.
Originally a soccer player and sprinter from Ohio, Beckwith turned strictly to track after her fourth knee surgery while at Indiana. A 55-second quarter miler and 24-second 200 meter runner in high school, Beckwith turned to the 800 her (redshirt) sophomore year at Indiana.
After giving up soccer, Beckwith saw her time in the 800 drop from an already impressive 2:06 to 1:59 last year. Beckwith, sponsored by Saucony, is a top American hopeful to go to the London Olympic Games this year. She was ranked 5th in the United States in 2011.
The event at Whitney Young is free and open to the public. Use of the Whitney Young parking lots is allowed. Whitney Young is easily accessible from I-90, I-290, and is a mile west of Union Station down Jackson Ave. CTA riders can exit the Blue Line at Racine and walk a block north to get to the school.
Universal Sole and Saucony will be present selling spikes at a discounted price for the evening. Anyone who purchases shoes will receive a free T-Shirt.
