A broken fibula took one season away from Julie Macedo. She wouldn't let it take away two.

The senior at Charter School of Wilmington (Delaware) saw her spring track season swept away by injury. But she listened to her doctors, did lots of swimming over the summer, and gave her leg the rest that it needed. In Wednesday's feature story, Macedo relates how she dealt with her injury and ultimately overcame it. Already, her cross country season is shaping up to be something special. She ran 16:53 for a 63-second win at Six Flags Wild Safari Invite in Jackson, N.J. on Saturday.

Keep your eyes peeled for a possible showdown with crosstown rival Haley Pierce on Oct. 14.
