RTC: Reviewing Clowney's stellar showing

Reading the coverage of the Houston Texans...

The Texans were well-represented at South Carolina's pro day and Texans coach Bill O'Brien was one of two head coaches to get a closer look at the star of that show. Jadeveon Clowney stated his case to be the top pick in this year's draft, writes Josh Kendall of The State. I loved this quote from Clowney in his piece, an answer to whether he should be the top pick: "What you think? If you ask a guy that and they say, 'No,' I don't know what they are doing up here," he said. "I do feel like I should be the first pick."

NFL.com's Chris Wesseling provided a recap of Ian Rapoport's hit on the show "NFL Total Access" which he said if the Texans draft Clowney, it will be because they think he can play that Willie McGinest elephant position we've discussed. That means being able to play defensive end and outside linebacker for the Texans.

There's also a reference in this piece to Clowney saying he'll make the Texans "miserable" if they pass on him with the top pick. I feel the need to clarify something on that comment from Clowney. That post on NFL.com came from a tweet I posted off Clowney's "SportsCenter" interview that I think I left a little too open ended. He was asked how miserable he'd make the Texans if they passed on him and the Jaguars drafted him third, which would lead to his facing the Texans twice a year. Clowney replied with the same language saying he'd have to make them miserable, adding that (I'm paraphrasing here) you'll always have something extra for the team that passed over you. It wasn't an out of the blue threat so much as a friendly response to a friendly question about his competitiveness.

Here's the Houston Chronicle's recap of Clowney's pro day, along with a couple videos filmed by the story's author, Brian T. Smith.

Also happening yesterday, the Texans re-signed cornerback Elbert Mack, writes Dave Zangaro of CSNHouston.com. Mack played in eight games for the Texans in 2013, making an impact on special teams. He is entering his seventh NFL season.
