RTC: McClain picks Manziel in latest mock

Reading the coverage of the Houston Texans...

Johnny Manziel was John McClain of the Houston Chronicle's pick for the Texans in his latest mock draft this week. In his first mock, he picked former UCF quarterback Blake Bortles. His top three are all different. McClain sends Jadeveon Clowney to the St. Louis Rams with the second pick and Bortles to the Jacksonville Jaguars with the third. He had the Jaguars with Manziel in his first mock and Texas A&M tackle Jake Matthews to the Rams.

The Texans newest workouts had a back-to-school theme, writes Dave Zangaro of CSNHouston.com, gathering quotes from players who attended Matt Schaub's golf tournament on Monday. The Texans were one of seven teams allowed to begin their workouts on Monday due to having a new head coach.

Here's a view from the other side of the Texans' signing of running back Andre Brown. Ebenezer Samuel, of the New York Daily News, writes that the Giants showed some interest early in the process of free agency, but moved on and signed Rashad Jennings instead.

HoustonTexans.com spoke with ESPN's Tedy Bruschi, a former teammate of Texans linebackers coach Mike Vrabel, about the new coach. Bruschi commended Vrabel's intellect, writes Drew Dougherty. "He was always the one that was making adjustments as a player, before they needed to be made," Bruschi said. "He was the intelligence of the operation. I was the middle linebacker, but a lotta times I was going ‘Vrabes: what do we got here?’ And he would give the answer. He’s going to bring that there."
