Reading the coverage of the Houston Texans...
Dinners are part of the pre-draft process, and last night Jadeveon Clowney and Johnny Manziel dined with various members of the Texans staff. Clowney with Texans general manager Rick Smith and some members of the Texans' defensive staff; Manziel with the Texans' head coach and some members of the Texans' offensive staff. Here's Mark Berman of Fox 26's story about that. Here's John McClain of the Houston Chronicle on those same dinners.
And while we're on the subject of dinners, let's get one thing out of the way. These are certainly interesting details, the notes of who attended dinner with whom, but they're not something anyone should weigh too heavily. Not every coach attends every dinner and most draft prospects who spend the night get a dinner during the night they spend in Houston. This is absolutely not reserved for players that could be taken with that first overall pick. It's merely part of the process.
Today in pundits offering their thoughts... Warren Sapp would not take Clowney with the first overall pick, writes Dave Zangaro of CSNHouston.com.
The Knicks have Spike Lee (and plenty of time on their hands right now) and the Rockets have J.J. Watt, writes Chris Baldwin of Houston Culture Map. And he wears the souvenir T-shirt (even though it's tiny on him, because he's badgered into it by the video board). The battle of the courtside celebrities.
