The Texans signed 22 undrafted rookies who participated in rookie minicamp last week along with their 10 draft picks, a handful of older player with first-year or rookie eligibility and 11 tryout players.
Most of them won't make the roster and those who do might now have an easy time staying on it. But this is a team on which one marquee player, running back Arian Foster, started as an undrafted rookie.
That should give hope and motivation to those 22 longshots that joined the Texans last week.
We'll take a look at another one of them today.
Name: Chris McAllister
Position: Outside linebacker
Acquired: Undrafted free agent
Football background: Was first-team All-Big 12 by coaches vote and Associated Press second-team All-Big 12. He had 11.5 tackles for loss in 13 games and six sacks.
Did you know? McAllister was raised in a military family and was born in Germany while his father was stationed there. The family remained there until he was three years old, when they moved to Arizona. In fifth grade, McAllister moved back to Germany for another year before returning to the states in San Antonio.
"My dad actually got stationed in Seattle when I was a junior in high school," he told the Dallas Morning News back in 2010, as a freshman at Baylor. "So he left, and my mom and my brother and I stayed behind (in San Antonio) so I could finish high school. Then they went and joined him up in Seattle, and that's where they live now."
